When you are just browsing
Have you ever walked into a shop, been greeted by a helpful assistant, and instantly replied with, “I am just browsing,” even though you already had a fair idea of what you needed? It might be a dress for a wedding, a tool for a weekend project, or something you cannot describe yet feel confident you will recognise when you see it. In moments like these, you do not want pressure and you do not want a pitch. Most of all, you do not want a conversation that feels too much like a sales moment.
We have all experienced that feeling. My husband once drove fifteen miles to another B and Q simply to avoid asking someone half his age which tool he needed. It felt easier to travel than to ask for help.
How this relates to your career
Many candidates in the property industry behave in the same way on LinkedIn. Profiles often show an open to work status, although when a recruiter reaches out, the response is usually polite but cautious. People say, “Not actively looking,” or “Just seeing what is out there,” or “Not the right time.” Some prefer not to reply at all.
I understand the hesitation. However, you do not need to be job hunting to benefit from an honest conversation with a recruiter.
Think of me as a career personal shopper
A personal shopper does not offer items that do not fit. Instead, they ask questions and listen closely. I do the same. My aim is to understand what matters to you, from your ambitions to your preferred work life balance. Then I can guide you in a way that suits your personality and skills.
You might tell me:
🟢 “I would like a more supportive environment.”
🟢 “I want progression, although I do not want to move only for a new title.”
🟢 “I would love to work closer to home and keep the quality of the brand.”
🟢 “I feel undervalued, although I do not want to rush into the wrong thing.”
These small details are enough. You do not need to know the full picture, simply the parts that feel clear already.
What happens next
Once I understand your priorities, I can offer guidance and suggest realistic options. If the right role appears, I can introduce opportunities that make you think, “That is exactly what I did not realise I needed.” If the timing is wrong, that is fine as well. I am here for the long term, not the quick win.
A gentle invitation
So, if you are just browsing the property job market, consider having a conversation that feels more like working with a personal shopper. You will speak with someone who understands the industry and will not hand you a generic job description and hope for the best.
Let’s talk. No pressure. No pitch. Just possibilities.
